Normand Thouin is a visionary leader. With a management style founded on “organizational courage”, Normand has played a key role in growing GCM Consultants into the organization that it is today. “My goal is to find unexpected synergies latent in our team, then together we transform ourselves in ways that yield unexpected, outstanding results. That motivates me like nothing else – that’s my drive.”
A member of the GCM team since 2002, Normand believes that leadership is a sacred trust. “You can’t buy leadership. It is given to you, when it is healthy leadership, based on factors like trust, competency, and love.” Gifted in his ability to create an environment where teams can grow – where engineers can find, and then reach, their potential – Normand’s specialty remains the execution of technically complex projects in fast-track mode. He is an ardent “win-win” negotiator with a successful track record of hammering out commercial contracts and collective agreements with large international organizations, for complex production environments.
Beyond collaboration, strongly rooted camaraderie – with both colleagues and with clients – requires honest communication, intentional interactions, and a kind of trust or love that, to Normand, is fundamental to long-term success. “We never lose a customer. We get so much repeat business. A refinery manager once told me, we work with a lot of engineers from different companies, and I can always tell which ones are from GCM; they are the ones who are laughing.”
